Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will probably miss the start of the upcoming season as he continue to nurse his injury. The 31 year old defender suffered knee ligament damage while on World Cup duty for England in a training session in Rustenberg on June 4th. Team doctors estimated that he would be out for atleast 10 weeks which means he will returm August 13, United’s season opener in the English Premier League is August 14 against newly promoted Newcastle.
I honestly think that the club should take as much time as they can and be very patient with Ferdinand’s recovery, it’s better to have him miss the firts few games rather than rush him back. Rio will most likely miss the clubs Community Shiled match against Chelsea which will take place on 8 August. I think the club will be fine without him for the start of the season, young Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling who are currently on United’s USA Tour will be options to partner with Nemanja Vidic in the centre of the defense.
