On November 26th The Soca Warriors were stunned by the Sugar Boys of St. Kitts and Nevis in an CFU Finals U-23 Olympic Qualifier at Warner Park. A hat-trick by Romaine Sawyers who is on the books at English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion and a brace by Javeim Blanchette.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 17th from a strike by Javeim Blanchette but the Sugar Boys were pegged back nine minutes later from a goal by Shahdon Winchester, at the halftime interval the scores remained level.
The second half of the match saw Romaine Sawyers grab a very impressive hat-trick with his goals coming in the 48th, 60th and 89th minutes of the match, his performance on the night left everyone talking about how good he is. The 20 year old has now made a name for himself in St. Kitts-Nevis and has now given his team a chance of advancing into the next phase of these qualifiers.
With this loss Trinidad and Tobago must now beat Suriname by four clear goals and hope St. Kitts-Nevis draw or lose their next match against group leaders if they are to advance. The Sugar Boys will be hoping for another breath taking performance by Sawyers in their fight to secure a spot for themselves in the next phase and they hope to make it to London 2012.
