This information was passed on to the Tottenham manager through Daniel Levy who is the chairman of the club, Mr. Levy was contacted by Defoe’s representative to discuss a possible move for the England international who is seeking regular playing time before this summer’s European Championship.
On hearing the news of Defoe’s willingness to depart White Hart Lane Harry said:
“Daniel spoke to his agent who said he is not happy because he wants to play and he has got a few clubs in for him,” Redknapp said. “I am sure he has got a few clubs in for him but we are not selling him. He is saying this club wants him and that club wants him – that is how they make their money. He is not moving anywhere, though. He is on contract here and is a big player for us.”
“Jermain wants to play in the Euros but so does Rafa [van der Vaart]. He wants to play for Holland so he feels he has to play. I would not consider letting him out on loan.”
With his Tottenham side level on points with Manchester United in second place and three points behind leaders Manchester City his side are going to need every bit of fire power if they are to mount a serious challenge for the league title so Harry’s reluctance to sell anyone during this transfer window is understandable but Defoe’s reason to leave the club is also understandable.
