Chelsea have finally signed 26 year old defender Gary Cahill from Bolton Wanderes on a reported £7million deal after the player successfully passed a medical on Saturday morning. Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas had the defender set in his sights for the January transfer window.
Cahill will be paid £80,000-per-week which is £20,000 less than the defender was hoping for. A few clubs were also chasing the defender, most notably Arsenal and Tottenham but both failed to land the England international.
On his signing to the club Cahill told the clubs official:
“Chelsea is a massive club, it is a club that looks to win trophies season in, season out and it is a big opportunity for me to be a part of that.
“Opportunities like this, you can’t turn down.”
Cahill could make his debut for the Blues this coming weekend when they come up against newly promoted Norwich City.
