This Is Their Year?

The last time Liverpool won the league title was during the 1989-90 season which was then the Football League First Division. For years Liverpool fans had endured the pain of watching the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and recently the blue side of Manchester (City) lift the league title.

The Reds have not gone trophyless during this 23 year period though. They have won (3) three FA Cups, (4) four League Cups, (3) three Charity/Community Shields one which was shared in 1990, (1) one UEFA Cup, (2) two UEFA Super Cups and (1) UEFA Champions League title.  If you mention those achivements to any Liverpool they are surely going to enjoy talking about those triumphs but they will quickly mention not winning a Premier League title. Winning the league title is highly coveted on the Merseyside.

Could Brendan Rodgers be the man to lead The Reds to the promise land or will it be another season of heartbreak for Liverpool. Having started out the 2013/14 campaign winning three our of their first three matches once which included a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Anfield. Their fine for was achieved without their trouble but talented striker Luis Suarez. The Reds are currently in second place behind Arsenal by two points, it might be a too early to  consider them serious title contenders but with Suarez back and in fine form himself shouts of title contenders might just be right. The season has a long way to go and this can possibly change but this year could quite possibly be “Their Year”.

Liverpool Fans: No Morale, No Standards

There have been huge build up to the match with Patrice Evra being the center of attention after he was racially abused by Luis Suarez of Liverpool FC, the result of the altercation ended with Suarez receiving an eight match ban for his racist actions.

In the previous round of the FA Cup, Tom Adeyemi of Oldham Athletic was the target of racial abuse by a Liverpool fan which left the player in tears. The ugly behavior of Liverpool fans has shown it’s head once again.

A Liverpool fan was seen making a monkey gesture towards Patrice Evra in Liverpool’s FA Cup 2-1 win over their rivals Manchester United, the obscene gesture was caught on camera and started circulating the internet. Continue reading Liverpool Fans: No Morale, No Standards

Phil Jones Joins United On 5-Year Contract

Manchester United have signed 19 year old defender Phil Jones on a 5 year deal for a reported £16.5 million. The England U-21 international passed a medical last week but the deal was delayed due to Blackburn Rovers seeking a further £3.5million for the services of the defender who’s contract had a £20 million buy out clause.

There were numerous reports that Liverpool had joined in the race for the defender and made a much improved offer £20 million but the defender told the club he’s only signing for the 19 time English champions. This wasn’t the first team that was after Jones’ services, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger held talks with the defender but he elected to join Manchester United the following day despite being offered more money to join the Gunners.

Manchester United Are Champions For A 19th Time!

Many journalists had written United off to win the English Premier League title this season due to the lack of spending they did in the transfer market last summer and the amount of spending their title rivals did, some of them went as far as predicting that United would miss out on a top four finish all together. Only two new players were added to the squad for the upcoming 2010-11 season, the little know Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and Chris Smalling.

Winning title 19 was always a dream of manager Sir Alex Ferguson who made it clear when he said: “My greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their fucking perch, And you can print that.”

This famous quote came to be when football analyst Alan Hansen said: “You don’t win anything with kids”  and considered getting a struggling Manchester United back in title as the greatest challenge of  Fergie’s career, United were six points behind leaders Arsenal who had won the league and finished ten points ahead of United.

Many trophies later and he’s done just that, knock Liverpool right off their fucking perch. Title 19 didn’t come easy as on a few occasions United had fell behind in some key matches and had to claw themselves back into the match to get a positive result. Matches against Stoke City, Aston Villa, Blackpool, City are games that all United fans will remember and question, what if? Those were some memorable matches and shall not be forgotten by any United fan who witnessed them via television, radio or internet.

The memories that have been taken from those matches are priceless, Chicharito’s backwards header and game winning goal against Stoke City, United’s comebacks against Aston Villa & Blackpool and Rooney’s outstanding bicycle kick against noisy neighbors City. The title race came down to the final matches of the season after months of battling with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea & Manchester City.

A two horse race between United and Arsenal slowly became three as both United and Arsenal were dropping points and outgoing champions Chelsea were taking advantage of this and eventually crept right back  into the race. United had all but squandered their lead completely and were just three points ahead of Chelsea with the Blues coming to Old Trafford the following weekend. United went on to win the match 2-1 despite some dodgy officiating by Howard Webb

There are a few players that deserve honorable mentions and played a huge part in helping Manchester United get this record achievement, Ryan Giggs, Edwin van Der Sar, Nani, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov & Antonio Valencia. While United were dealing with an out of form and sometimes injured Wayne Rooney it was Nani who was the driving force for United in many matches with his goals and assists.

While Manchester United fans all around the world are celebrating a triumphant 19th title Liverpool players past, present and their supporters are somewhere weeping as if their entire world has crumbled beneath their feet as their rivals rise above them in titles.

Anderson son son

Anderson son son,
He’s better than Kleberson,
Anderson son son,
He’s our midfield magician,
To the left,
To the right,
To the samba beat tonight,
He is class with a brass
And he shits on Fabregas.

Those were the words that could be heard ringing throughout Old Trafford.

The Brazilian play maker had arguably his most productive match in the red shirt of Manchester United since arriving at the club in July of 2007. Anderson scored a brace against FC Schalke 04 in the Reds’ 2nd leg UEFA Champions League semifinal matchup at Old Trafford. Since his arrival scoring goals have been a rarity but besides that the Brazilian have had a hard time getting consistent playing time due to his lack of fitness and occasional injuries.

During his first season at the club he had some outstanding performances against two of United’s biggest rivals Liverpool & Arsenal respectivelyand earned himself a few caps for the Brazil national team. His future at the club looked bright but the young Brazilian started making headlines off the field more than on it, news of his partying lifestyle took the spotlight which obviously wasn’t well received by Sir Alex Ferguson and caused a slight rift between player and manager.

This season Anderson was in the spotlight once again after he crashed his car after leaving a nightclub while in Portugal recovering from a serious knee injury. This season he has shown some promise that he can be a key figure in the midfield for United after having a consistent run of games where he put in some very good performances, with Paul Scholes on the verge of retirement Anderson will have some very huge boots to fill but before he can go down that path his first hurdle will be making a change in his off field lifestyle.
