The beautiful game of football is tainted with racism.
Racism has no place in football!
It’s hard enough to deal with the diving and dirty play that exists in football, when races gets involved it makes matters even worse. A few leagues that struggle with players being racially abused by opposing fans and sometimes their own fans are Spain’s La Liga and the Italian Serie A.
Samuel Eto’o who played for FC Barcelona was the target of racism in every stadium he played in during his time in La Liga.
Earlier this year In an eight day span four incidents of racism took place.
- Roberto Carlos who once played for Real Madrid and Brazil had a banana waved in his face while in Russia.
- In a Brazil v Scotland friendly which took part at the Emirates Stadium 19 year old Neymar was subject to racial abuse as a banana skin was thrown in his direction.
- Exodus Geohaghon who is a defender at Port Vale was called the “N” word by fans of his own team.
- Real Madrid’s Marcelo was called a monkey by fans of Atletico Madrid.
